Sherlock speedily sifts through cabinets, Lestrade checks the book shelves, and the rest of the team is checking every nook and cranny. John spots something suspicious and when he moves towards Sherlock to show it, he could see the consulting detective’s grasp quiver against pens and papers and envelopes and spare change. Voluntarily asking for help, emotional disarray—the last time Sherlock was like this was the fall; help from Molly, disarray in front of John as he titters over the edge of the rooftop. It may be a difficult concept to grasp for others, but for John, it’s quite clear—when it comes to family, every single thing that makes Sherlock a sociopath instantly clears away.
